Shopping in Hong Kong

Sometimes called Hong Kong's favourite sport, shopping here takes on a new meaning. Rightly hailed as the shopping capital of Asia, you can browse through a tremendous variety of Western and Oriental goods in an amazing array of shops and markets, ranging from air-conditioned malls lined with designer boutiques to bustling street stalls where you can bargain for eveything

The most exclusive malls can be found in the Central area of Hong Kong Island, while there are other complexes in Queensway, Taikoo Shing and Causeway Bay, which has a number of well-known Japanese department stores. The best place to shop for everything in Kowloon is Tsim Sha Tsui, and in the New Territories, Sha Tin.

For a real cultural spending spree, check out the night market on Temple Street, or Stanley Market for some seaside shopping. To see some real local colour take a stroll round "Cat Street" in Central or Spring Garden Lane in Wan Chai.

If it's antiques and curious you're after then Hollywood Road is definitely worth a visit, or if you fancy something for your home, then take a look down Queen's Road East, famous for its rattan and rosewood furniture markers.

Shops in Hong Kong generally open around 10.00am and close anytime between 6.00pm to 9.30pm.
